All I Want for Christmas, is a New Clothing Line
At the start of my winter break I never knew that I would restart my clothing line. i just thought it would be an average Christmas break with nothing too exciting. I was so excited to see my family and FINALLY go back to Alaska for Christmas, I hadn't been back for so long. I got to Fairbanks a few days before Christmas as was so happy to see my family, I hadn't seen my mom or sister since that summer so it had been awhile. My grandma came up to Alaska too for Christmas which was really great because I hadn't seen her in so long. It was a great Christmas having everyone together, which I really enjoyed. As the days followed Christmas I found myself on Pinterest all the time.
When I get bored, I either shop online and find new trends or I look through Pinterest for hours. I love looking through Pinterest for clothing ideas, photo shoot ideas, food ideas, decoration ideas, you name it Pinterest has it. i think that's why I love it so much. I found myself making different boards. Boards with clothing ideas and boards with photo shoot ideas. I had just gotten a camera for Christmas and was so excited to be able to use it, so then I had this idea what if I started my clothing line again and tried to take it one step further. I had two main things that I wanted to incorporate into the new line.
1.) Make clothes that are unique, make something that they wont necessarily see in every store that they go in. Make it different than your average Forever21 or H&M clothing. Then take these designs one step further, instead of having friends model them in your living room, actually take photos of the clothing in a cool setting with a neat background and full outfit. This allows the customer to visualize themselves in the clothes, it gives them a perspective where they could see themselves in this item.
2.) Start your own clothes. This was something that I had been wanting to do for awhile. I wanted to start making my own clothes from scratch, something that I made and put together in my head. The idea of making my own clothes scared me a lot, it was a whole new door that I was walking into, but like I thought about. This is something that I wanted to do.for awhile, so why not just do it.
I started off just making more reconstructed clothes from my local goodwill, but instead of making generic clothing I tried to branch out and make it more unique and specialized. I found myself making some really cool designs. I got in contact with someone of my friends that I had gone to high school with and set up photo shoots. This was so fun to make outfits with clothes that I had designed and watch them come to life in an outfit. I had scheduled over 3 photo shoots in Alaska before I was going to leave back to AZ. Most of these photo shoots I wanted to do outside, because it was GORGEOUS. Alaska is so pretty, it is just blistering cold in the winter.
Luckily, I had amazing friends that let me take photos of them in -20 degree weather in just a shirt. Each photo shoot had its own unique vibe too it while it all had individual items being modeled. The photos turned out so much better than I had ever imagined and I was so happy with the results. The first step to my plan was successful, now it was time for step two; designing. I was nervous but ready for the next level of my journey, that lead me to: Isn't Always as Easy as it "Seams"
